Developed, owned and operated by family members Shannon and Jeff Gastreich and Kevin Bollman (natives of Belleville and the surrounding area), The Weingarten pays tribute to the German heritage of the area by keeping with the “rustic” nature of an old farmstead.  An original concrete stave silo serves as our centerpiece while an antique cattle feeding area has been converted to outdoor seating.  A beautiful pond, walking trail, and even a 200 year old cemetery invite you to explore. 

We have plans to grow The Weingarten over the next several years to include cabins, shops, a gazebo, an outdoor concert area and additional event space. Come grow with us!

German Heritage
Named for its German heritage, The Weingarten property once served as farmland in the 1800’s for the Wilderman family.  Originally from Germany, George Wilderman moved to this property in 1805.  The Wilderman’s were one of the area’s most prominent families.

Perhaps the most renowned was Alonzo S. Wilderman, born Dec. 1, 1839.  Alonzo became one of St. Clair County's best-known lawyers.  He served on the Judiciary Committee and was instrumental in creating the state's appellate court system.

J.C. Wilderman started out without so much as a square foot of land.  He grew up to develop "one of the best cultivated farms in his neighborhood, a farm of 340 acres in extent, adorned by an elegant home mansion and creditable outbuildings," according to the 1881 "History of St. Clair County, Illinois."
  Weingarten The area became known as Wilderman Station and is believed to have been a stop along what would become the Illinois Central Railroad tracks. It was never officially incorporated, but the area became so widely called such that Wilderman Station can be found in the book of "Illinois Place Names".
