To become a resident of Villa Rose, do I lose control of my assets? Must I sign over my estate?
No! You will only have to pay an Entrance Deposit of $2,000.00 ($3,000.00 for any One or Two Bedroom Suite). The Entrance Deposit is refundable, less $250.00, according to the provisions of the lease. The deposit is put into an interest bearing escrow account. You will receive your dividend on an annual basis assuming that you stay longer than one year. When the time comes that you move from Villa Rose, the deposit is refunded after the apartment is inspected and there are no damages.

Are the services and benefits the same with any size apartment?
Yes. They are exactly the same with the studio, one bedroom or two bedroom apartments and the one bedroom suite. The services include:

  1. Three meals daily in the dining room. The meals are served to the residents at their assigned table. They consist of a hearty breakfast and dinner. The lunch is light fare. The menus are posted each week for the residents’ information.
  2. Weekly housekeeping with flat linen service.
  3. Water, sewer and trash pick-up.
  4. Twenty-four hour emergency response.
  5. Twenty-four hour security by a closed circuit T.V. entry system.
  6. Scheduled transportation, activities and recreation.
  7. TV service with 60 channels.
  8. Internet service.

BJC Home Care Services* is on-site and will provide assistance with activities of daily living for an additional charge. Examples of services include: medication reminders, assistance with bathing and dressing, escorts to meals, and personal laundry service.

Is there a waiting list and how does one get on it?
Yes and No. Occasionally there is a waiting list. Individuals must complete an application and submit a $100.00 application fee to be placed on the waiting list. The fee is non-refundable. However, it is applied to the first full months rent after the individual moves into his apartment. Only prospective residents on the waiting list are notified when apartment vacancies occur. An Entrance Deposit of $2,000.00 ($3,000.00 for Suites) will secure the apartment for 30 days or until move-in, whichever is less.

Does the monthly rental amount ever increase?
It has been necessary to increase our rate periodically in order to maintain the quality of services at our facility. The residents will be notified 30 days in advance should an increase become necessary.

Are the apartments furnished or unfurnished?
The apartments are all unfurnished. Some choose to bring furnishings that are familiar to them and some choose to purchase new things or combine the old with the new.

How will I get repairs done in my apartment?
Villa Rose has a full-time maintenance department. We will do all the repairs and even change the light bulbs you provide. We try to take the worry and frustration out of living on your own.

May I hang things on the walls?
Yes. We do, however, require that our maintenance department do that for you.

Can I move from one size apartment to another?
Yes. A transfer fee of $250.00 is charged to offset unscheduled maintenance and improvements to the apartment the resident is moving into as well as the apartment being vacated. Residents are responsible for transferring their electric and telephone services.

Are there any social activities?
Yes. The Activity Director at Villa Rose has a calendar full of events each month. They are listed in the monthly newsletter. The activities include musical entertainment, scheduled games, bible study groups, exercise classes, birthday parties, blood pressure and hearing aid checks and much more.

Is there scheduled transportation?
Yes. The Villa Rose van has scheduled trips for local shopping each week. The van is reserved for doctor’s appointments in the Alton area on Thursdays and Fridays. Residents must schedule their appointments one day in advance at the Management Office or with the Activity Director.

Are there any “extra charges”?
Electricity and telephone are not included in the monthly rent. Personal laundry and assistance with activities of daily living are not included in the rent but are available for an additional charge through BJC Home Care.

Where can I do my laundry?
Self-service, coin-operated washers and dryers are located in the center of each wing on the first floor. Folding tables and hanging racks are in each of the laundry rooms. Although personal laundry service is provided for an additional fee through BJC Home Care, you or your family may do your laundry if you choose.

May I bring my own car? Will I have my own parking space?
Yes. However, since our lot is not patrolled, we cannot always guarantee that someone may not inadvertently use the space.

May I have overnight guests and guests for dinner?
Absolutely. Guests are always welcome at Villa Rose. We even have two guest apartments available for a nominal fee. You may reserve one of the guest kitchens and dining rooms, at no cost, for your gatherings. Your guests are always welcome to join you in the Villa Rose dining room for a fee. There is no limit to the number of persons you may invite, but we do ask that you make reservations with the dining room manager ahead of time.

Is there storage space for rarely used items?
Yes. Each apartment has a storage unit assigned to it. The second floor apartments have storage space on that floor and the first floor apartments have storage space in the basement. It is available at no extra cost. You must provide your own lock and key.

Is there a barber/beautician salon in Villa Rose?
Yes. A stylist is on staff Tuesday through Friday from 7:30 AM until 4:00 PM. You may contact the salon by calling 377-3243 to make an appointment or to inquire about rates.

Are there emergency pull cords in the apartments?
Yes. The emergency cords are in the bedrooms and bathrooms in each apartment. Since Villa Rose is not a nursing home, the cords are for emergencies only. They are not used to request a staff member to come to the apartment for non-emergency situations.

But what if I need extra help?
Additional “Supportive Services” can be contracted through BJC Home Care Services. Examples are:

  1. Bathing and/or dressing assistance.
  2. Medication management.
  3. Personal laundry.
  4. Transportation to and from the dining room.
  5. Empty of a bedside commode.
  6. Hearing aid assistance.
  7. Phone reminders ( meals, wake-up calls, etc.)

Remember that 24-hour-staffing is in place with the BJC Home Care.

What if I have a temporary illness and need just a little help?
Tray service may be arranged for those residents recovering from a temporary illness or surgery. An example would be if a resident was released from the hospital to return home and was unable to go to the dining room for meals.

If I don’t want to eat all my meals in the dining room, will my rent be less?
No. Villa Rose offers congregate living. That means that the meals, housekeeping and other services included in the monthly fee are not available on an “a la carte” basis. However, the menu of “Supportive Services” provided through BJC Home Care are provided “a la carte.”

Are there any miscellaneous services?
Yes, for example:

  • Notary Public in our management office
  • Limited use of FAX machine and photocopier for nominal charge
  • Computer with Internet access for residents use
  • Vision-aid instrument
  • On-site banking services through First National Bank
