ART & Chiropractic

A team of Duke Medical Center researchers has found that patients suffering from back pain consume more than $90 billion annually in health-care expenses, with approximately $26 billion of that amount directly attributable to treating the back pain. Tremendous costs are associated with LBP, including lost productivity and income from work, the expense of medical, rehabilitation, and surgical interventions, and the costs of disabling pain and limited daily function.

Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic is a natural form of health care that uses spinal adjustments to correct these misalignments and restore proper function to the nervous system, helping your body to heal naturally. Chiropractic doesn't use drugs or surgery. Rather, a chiropractic spinal adjustment—the application of a precise force to a specific part of the spinal segment—corrects the misalignment, permitting normal nerve transmission and assisting your body to recuperate on its own. Chiropractic is concerned with the relationship between the structure (primarily the spine) and function (primarily coordinated by the nervous system) of your body and how that relationship affects your health.

The human body is a compensating machine. When one part of spine has dysfunction and misalignment, the segments above and below compensate by creating excessive movement and they can become "hypermobile". This can cause instability and the creation of bone spurs, in turns causes early degeneration. What a Chiropractor does is finds the spots of dysfunction and misalignment in the spine and by  adjusting the spine, prescribing corrective exercises, and performing ART, the patient can be on the road to recovery .

Active Release Technique

Every ART session is actually a combination of examination and treatment. I use my hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements.

The therapy increases blood flow to the affected area, increases it's flexibility and movement. ART is geared toward  re-educating certain muscles and decreasing the buildup of scar tissue, which is nonplyable and can cause sections of what should be freely moveable tissue to become stuck together, in turns this decreases the performance of that tissue, I.E. strength, flexibility and endurance. The human body is a compensating machine, so when one small section of muscle becomes torn and scarred, other portion or even other muscles try and pick up the slack of the affected muscle. This action leads to other muscles to produce  tares and scar tissue formation.  It only takes one day for scar tissue to infiltrate the affected area and  scar tissue affects every bit of the athletes' performance.

I believe in getting you moving and keeping you that way. Movement is needed in almost all of the joints in the body to keep them healthy. We know joint motion can only be preserved and/ or restored by addressing ALL aspects of the joint, and with Chiropractic and ART I can address the passive structures (joint and ligaments) and the active structures ( muscles, tendons and fascia)
Patient should start seeing an improvement and a decrease in symptoms in 3 to 4 treatments, but some patient can get instant result!
